Cystatin C (CysC) is the most potent inhibitor of cathepsin B, and its biological function is mainly to regulate the activity of cysteine protease. Because of its small molecular weight, it can pass through the glomerular filtration membrane , is almost completely reabsorbed by the glomerulus and is not secreted. It can replace creatinine and become a new ideal marker to reflect GFR. It is an indicator for assessing the sensitivity and specificity of renal function.
